Detectives at Kabalagala Police Station have launched an investigation into circumstances that led to the shooting of three revellers inside Nomads Bar and Grill in Bunga- Soya zone, Makindye East.
Facts so far gathered show that three revellers are nursing bullet wounds after they were shot by a private security guard on Sunday night for reasons yet to be identified. The victims have been identified as Eiden Male 23, Venus 25 and Keirie 24.
Male, according to detectives has revealed that they were drinking at around 10:30 pm when a man started shooting randomly as he searched for the bar’s manager. “He fired bullets asking where the manager was. We don’t know what had happened between him and the manager he was looking for. We were just revellers,” detectives said quoting Male’s account.
The shooter has since been identified as Ambrose Ogwang a security guard attached to Saracen security group. Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson said Ogwang fled with the rifle after the shooting incident.
Police have established that Ogwang might have been prompted by the decision of Nomads Bar and Grill manager to send him back home since he was drunk and posing a risk to revellers. Ogwang, according to investigators left the workplace unhappy but decided to return in the night to attack the manager.
“He turned up for work looking drunk and the manager told him to go back home. He returned at 10:30 pm looking for the manager while shooting bullets. He injured three people including two females and a male. We have picked three cartridges of the bullets he fired,” Owoyesigyire said.
Psychologist, Edward Bantu, who has assessed the mental health of men in uniform blames inconsistent observation of armed persons’ mental health and irregular counselling services. Bantu believes the working conditions of such people coupled with the economic hardships prompt them to turn their anger on innocent persons.
