During the National Heroes Day celebrations in Gomba District on Sunday, President Museveni awarded five Prisons Officers with prestigious Diamond Jubilee medals, recognizing their exceptional bravery, loyalty, and dedication to service.
The officers, who have served in Uganda Prisons Service for decades, were praised for their outstanding contributions to the country’s safety and security.
They include: – Mr. Johnson Odur Munu, Rtd Principal Officer I, who served from 1980 to 2020 and exhibited outstanding performance in ensuring the safety and security of prisoners, discipline, and professionalism, making him a role model among his peers.
– Chief Warder Grade I Alfred Chandia of UG. Prison GiliGili, who enlisted in 1993 and displayed remarkable courage during the ADF attacks on Fort Portal Prisons in 1999, ensuring the safety of inmates and foiling the rebels’ attempts.
– Chief Warder Grade II Henry Damulira of Prisons Headquarters, Kampala, who joined the service in 2001 and demonstrated remarkable bravery during attacks on Luzira Prisons Complex in 2006, where he sustained bullet wounds while ensuring the safety of staff and inmates.
– RTD Chief Warder Grade III Olivier Kabajungu, who served from 1982 to 2022 and demonstrated invaluable bravery and dedication while countering ADF attacks in Fort Portal Prison, securing prisoners, and rescuing others from captivity.
– The late Sergeant Warder Johnson Oala, who joined the service in 1988 and sadly passed away in 2000. He showed exceptional courage during the ADF attacks on Fort Portal Prisons in 1999, securing prisoners and rescuing others from rebel captivity. The medals are a symbol of Uganda’s appreciation for the sacrifices made by its security personnel in maintaining peace and stability in the country.
